What is High N Dry Floatant and how does it work?

High N Dry Floatant is a specialized product designed for enhancing the buoyancy of dry flies used in fishing. It works by coating the fly, allowing it to float on the surface of water for longer periods, which is essential for attracting fish. The floatant repels water, preventing the fibers of the fly from becoming saturated. Use it before casting your fly to ensure it stays high and visible above the water, improving your chances of enticing fish.

How do I apply High N Dry Floatant to my flies?

Applying High N Dry Floatant is straightforward. First, take your dry fly and shake off any excess moisture. Then, either dip the fly directly into the floatant or apply it with your fingers or a brush to ensure even coverage. This method helps to maximize the effectiveness of the floatant. Applying it right before your fishing session is optimal, as it provides the best buoyancy support to your flies while fishing.

Is High N Dry Floatant suitable for all types of dry flies?

Yes, High N Dry Floatant is versatile and can be used on all types of dry flies, whether they are made of fur, feathers, or synthetic materials. Regardless of your fly selection, using a floatant helps maintain its ability to stay on the water, making it an essential tool for fly fishermen. For instance, whether you're using a Parachute Adams or a Caddis, this floatant will help accentuate their presence in the water.

Can High N Dry Floatant be used in saltwater fishing?

High N Dry Floatant is primarily designed for freshwater fly fishing; however, it can also be used in saltwater situations. Keep in mind that saltwater can be harsher on materials, so rinse your flies with freshwater after use to prolong their life. If you're using patterns that require surface presentation in saltwater, such as for targeting bonefish or permit, this floatant aids in keeping your flies visible on the surface.

How long does High N Dry Floatant last on flies once applied?

The effectiveness of High N Dry Floatant can vary based on environmental conditions, such as wind and water temperature, but generally, it lasts for several casts. If your flies start to sink or become waterlogged, simply reapply the floatant to restore buoyancy. For active fishing sessions, checking your fly regularly ensures that it stays effective. This frequent application can help in maintaining the fly in prime condition throughout your fishing outing.

Are there any special storage instructions for High N Dry Floatant?

To ensure that High N Dry Floatant maintains its effectiveness, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. This prevents degradation of the product and keeps it in optimal condition for use. Avoid storing it in high humidity areas, as moisture can affect its properties. Proper storage ensures that your floatant is always ready for those fishing trips, allowing for consistent performance when you need it most.

Does High N Dry Floatant affect the appearance of my flies?

High N Dry Floatant is designed to enhance buoyancy without altering the appearance of your flies. It dries clear and will not leave a noticeable residue that could distract fish. When applied properly, it maintains the essential features of your flies, such as color and shape. This is vital for matching the natural insects found in your fishing area, ensuring that your flies remain effective attractors.

Can High N Dry Floatant be used with non-dry flies?

High N Dry Floatant is specifically formulated for dry flies and is not recommended for use with nymphs or streamers, as these flies are designed to sink. Using a floatant on these types of flies could hinder their intended action. For your fishing strategy, ensure you select the right products according to the type of fly you are using, ensuring you maximize your fishing effectiveness based on the target species.

Is High N Dry Floatant safe for the environment?

Yes, High N Dry Floatant is formulated with an emphasis on environmental safety, making it a more sustainable choice for anglers. As you use it in natural waters, it won't introduce harmful chemicals that could affect aquatic life. Anglers are increasingly choosing environmentally conscious products, and using such a floatant contributes to preserving the ecosystems we enjoy while fishing.
