These sponge pieces have wide pores that work to remove fish poop and excess food, keeping the filter safer for baby shrimps. As per users, they can use these on internal and external filters and alternate them every three months, washing them for second and third times. They can even cut these to fit a smaller filter, use them with a biomax or replace the carbon bag with two foam inserts. Keeping them functional doesn't require much hassle as they can squeeze them out in removed tank water while cleansing debris and put them back in.
