Editorial Review
The RIGOL DS1054Z Digital Oscilloscope is a feature-rich operating system that is almost unbelievable. It can be remotely controlled through National Instrument tools over Ethernet, and a less convenient remote scope panel is also available. While the sampling rate with 3 or more channels is 250Msa/s, the scope combines several traces for "better resolution" when not all memory is used. This can result in weird pictures on display in some corner cases. However, it's a great instrument for hobbyists, students, makers, and everywhere working with mid-speed analog and digital circuits and Arduino-style microcontrollers. The quality exceeds other scopes in its class, including the Owon DS7102, and the measurement capabilities go far beyond what most users require. One downside is there is only one vertical shift knob and only one channel sensitivity attenuator, making it a button-pushing exercise to remember and find which channel the knobs currently apply to. Overall, it's a great machine in terms of capability, though it may not be as user-friendly at first.
